Admission Policy

It is the admission policy of the school that all children start their full time education at the beginning of the school year in which they are going to be 5 years old.

We also offer Nursery provision to children in the term following their 4th birthday, up to a maximum of 6 places. Parents can choose to send their children for up to 5 morning sessions for 2½ hours daily. (There are appropriate differentiated activities provided for the Nursery aged children.)

The school maintains a waiting list of children whose parents wish them to be educated at Toftstead Primary.

If applications exceed places available then the highest priority will be given to those children for whom our school is clearly more appropriate.

The Governors Policy is that the following factors will be considered: -

• Expression of parental preference
• Medical reasons (e.g. wheelchair access)
• Prior attendance at school by a brother or sister.
• Convenience of access (i.e. distance from home / nature of route / transport availability.

Where the distance is less than 2 miles for primary school pupils, the measurement of the shortest route by maintained public highway and established public footpaths from the front gate of the house to the nearest approved entrance to the school.

Where the distance is greater than 2 miles for primary school pupils, the measurement of the shortest route by maintained public highway from the front gate of the house to the nearest approved entrance to the school.

In the event of insufficient places being available, parents will be informed of this in writing and also of their right of access to the appeals procedure.
